Come on out this Saturday September 12th at 5pm to the Sullivan’s Gulch Block Party. Cheryl & Jen from Origin will hit the stage at 5pm but there will also be music all day long for you to enjoy.

The heart of the party will be at NE 25th & Clackamas. So come on by for some food and dancing and celebrate these final rays of summer.

And if you are still in the mood for fun afterward, hop over to Muddy Waters and catch the end of the Belmont Street Fair where you can find more of our friends bellydancing late in the evening.

Summertime and the Living is Easy?

August 3, 2009 at 1:40 pm (Other Events)

Ok with record high temps and unemployment levels, perhaps ‘easy’ aint the right word. But when you have Negara playing at Bete-Lukas each 2nd Sunday of the month, life does seem a bit better!

So come one out this Sunday August 9th from 6-8pm to Bete-Lukas for Portland’s best Ethiopian cuisine (ok, you could just take the Ethiopian part out for it is one of my top 3 spots to dine due to quality not just because it’s Ethiopian) and fabulously locally crafted artisan music. They aren’t too bad to look at either!

Reserve a table or pull up to the bar for appetizers and a glass of chilled wine. I hope to see you there!

Negara at Mint Tea!

May 12, 2009 at 1:24 pm (Other Events)

Saturday May 30th wraps up a rather busy-as-a-bee month here in the Pacific NW. It is sometimes unbelievable to me that we squeeze it all in as we do, in just a few months. Winters get long north of the 45th parallel and this May is no exception for much to do and see as the days warm and lengthen into summer.

So, head to Vancouver WA and enjoy a relaxing afternoon at Mint Tea, while enjoying the lovely tunes of Negara. Music, Open Dance and Locally Grown & Crafted Food and Drinks. A perfect end to a perfect month.

Negara and Grace of Deviant Dance

May 12, 2009 at 1:06 pm (Other Events)

UnknownThose of you who know me understand how strongly I feel about the wonderful alchemy of free, ecstatic, improvised dance to real live music. I feel as though there often isn’t enough open dancing to live mid-east music–usually there is just a song here and there between the ‘official’ dance performances, and not enough time for the audience to just dance to the infectious music and be free! This show is designed for open dancing–there is a large dance floor with low lighting and lots of room for you to shake it any way you want. Whether you are a student of dance, or a student of life, you are welcome to come and groove to the wonderful sounds.
If you have yet to hear Negara, their music is a heady concoction of exotic sounds, blending the Middle-East with other delicious flavors: Afro-Cuban, blues, jazz, Spanish… yum!
I will perform just once, and I will do my best to make it interesting. ; ) Most of the evening is uninterrupted free-flowing dance by YOU!
Egyptian Club Portland, OR

8 pm
Hip Notiq ~ Mid-East Fusion Dance Jam …come dance the night away!
Live music by NEGARA
9pm Belly dance show by GRACE …followed by still more open dance party!
Doors at 7:30, $5 cover, 21 & over
